The Kyōgen Theatre represents a truly unique theatrical ensemble, born out of long-term cooperation between Czech and Japanese theatre artists. It is dedicated to the kyōgen genre at a professional level outside the territory of Japan. Kyōgen presents 600-year-old comedies that humorously mock human foolishness.
Ms. Izumo Shōchō performed expressive dance in the style of Nihon Buyō at Eigasai 2024, and this year she returns with the beautiful performance “Nagare no Botan-Bake” (The Flowing Peony in Disguise). This dance tells the story of a man who conceals his true identity and, in the form of a woman, seeks revenge for the death of his parents. In this transformation, his heart is torn between revenge and love—emotions that, like a quiet current, flow beneath the surface of beauty.
Wadaiko Yosa-Yosa was founded in Prague in 2005 as a taiko club of the Czech–Japanese Society. Wadaiko (taiko) are traditional Japanese drums whose sound has been inseparably connected with community life for centuries. It is not merely music, but a profound experience of both body and heart—a rhythm born of breath, movement, and inner human strength.
We invite you into the world of Japanese spirituality and history. Nobuhiro Gotō will introduce Gagaku—sacred music of the Japanese imperial court, performed in an unchanged form for more than 1,300 years. It is a rare art form that can be heard only exceptionally even in Japan itself.
The program features the piece Shun-no-den (Song of the Spring Nightingale). This melody imitates the nightingale’s call “Ho-ho-ke-kyo,” the messenger of spring. Please close your eyes and imagine a gentle spring breeze and awakening nature. Nobuhiro plays the Ryūteki—the dragon flute—which embodies deep reverence for nature. It is made from rare, old bamboo salvaged and recycled during the restoration of centuries-old Japanese houses. Listen to the harmony between humanity, history, and nature.
