Mika returns to her native isle of Iejima after many years to bid farewell to her sick father. What was it that tore their lives apart, and how much can one be wrong when blinded by their own stubbornness? These are the questions that this heartwarming comedy asks, depicting relationships that hurt sometimes and heal other times.

Made by the author of the successful comedy Born Bone Born (Eigasai 2023), this film takes us to the sunny Okinawa to explore the topic of family ties. After her mother’s death, Mika leaves her father brimming with wrath and disappointment and making no plans for coming back. Destiny and the power of family ties eventually bring her back home years later.

Piece by piece, her childhood memories, her father’s colleagues and her mother’s diary begin to unveil the past that Mika had no idea ever existed. Her parents’ love comes alive again in old photographs. Kanasando, the traditional Okinawan love song accompanies the story and provides a musical thread within a story full of misunderstandings.

Asano Tadanobu who starred in the Shogun series plays the leading role of the father.
